17 June – 23 July 2026 (first month)
Following the HTMA results, we began giving Harvey the supplements recommended by Jaine Kirtley. These included magnesium, calcium, vitamin D, omega-3 (fish oil), and a probiotic. We introduced them gradually while continuing to observe how he responded.
The first week was very interesting. We immediately noticed that Harvey had clearer eyes, seemed less tired, and was sleeping significantly better. One notable change involved his shoulders. They had been extremely tender to touch — any pressure would make him cry because the pain was so intense. After the first week, however, we found we could apply pressure to his shoulders without him becoming upset.
Although seizures continued through the first two weeks, we couldn't help feeling that something was shifting. The seizures themselves changed: instead of full eye-rolling episodes they became more subtle and less severe. In the third week we began to notice certain days with lower seizure activity.
What became clear to us during this period is that supplementation is not an overnight process. Minerals and nutrients need time to be absorbed, distributed, and taken up into different tissues of the body. Blood levels can shift relatively quickly, but tissue levels — the deeper stores in muscle, bone, and cells — often take weeks or even months to rebuild. We reminded ourselves that patience would be essential, and that any meaningful change would likely unfold gradually rather than all at once.
23 July – 6 August 2026
Harvey then caught a cold. What was interesting about this particular illness was that the early onset was not characterised by an increase in seizure activity — something that had often happened in the past. Unfortunately, since the Covid pandemic, colds seem to linger much longer and are harder to shift. In this case Harvey (and the rest of the family) appeared to have one cold followed by another, or a second, more difficult phase of the same illness.
Harvey managed well during the first week of the cold, but his seizure activity then increased. On 30 July I introduced L-theanine into his supplementation. I noticed that his seizures appeared to reduce further, although the ongoing cold made it very difficult to establish any clear pattern.
On 3 August we introduced high-dose vitamin C and a B-vitamin complex. We noted that his seizures increased dramatically, so we stopped both of these and returned to a simpler regimen of vitamin D, magnesium, calcium, a probiotic, and vitamin K2.
The cold reached its peak on 6 and 7 August. Since then Harvey has begun to look and feel better. We now suspect that the illness may have depleted much of the progress we had made with the supplementation, and that we may effectively need to begin rebuilding again.
